I'm Still Here
I survived the shooting at UAH yesterday. It was as horrible as you might imagine. Largely by the luck of being on the far side of the room from where the shooter was I avoided injury. Others weren't so lucky and that's the horror. I look forward to posting about fish sometime in the near future.

Bruce, I was just writing you about this and thought of checking your blog...how horrible, but I'm glad you are OK...even though going through something like that doesn't mean you really are. Yes, back to fish indeed.
I heard Huntsville and thought "uh oh." Then I heard biology dept and thought --I hope Bruce is in zoology. The I looked you up. Then I found the list of names and exhaled. But then I thought you had probably been there, which is pretty bad in itself. Lynn forwarded this. I'm sorry you had to get so close to gun madness and lose your colleagues in such an ugly way. As soon as I realized it happened in the Shelby Center where I'd been to visit you and then from the news found out it was your dept, I was anxiously looking for names ..... SO GLAD you're not physically hurt ... but hearts go out especially to the families of your colleagues and friends who were so tragically and stupidly wasted before their time.
I'd like to say or do something useful but life doesn't prepare most of us in advance for this kind of event.

Very very glad you are ok. I can't even imagine how awful that whole experience was for all of you. It's so sad that such wonderful people died. I really hope that Dr. Leahy and Stephanie have a quick and full recovery.

Bruce! So glad you're ok. I never made the connection until Lynn forwarded emails to me. (Been underwater from a car accident and trade show in NYC.) What a horrible event. I'm so sorry you were there. There's an incredible technique called EMDR for PTSD if you find you have it at all. I can get you a contact of someone who does it if you want. So glad you survived this. xo
